What is SAT?

The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a standardized test used for college and university admissions, primarily in the United States and other countries. It assesses a student’s readiness for higher education and is widely accepted by institutions worldwide.

Types of SAT Test

  • SAT Reasoning Test

    The SAT Reasoning Test is three hours and 45 minutes long and measures skills in three areas: critical reading, math, and writing. Although most questions are multiple choice, students are also required to write a 25- minute essay. The SAT assesses the critical thinking skills students need for academic success in college – skills that students learned in high school.

  • SAT Subject Test

    The SAT subject Tests are one – hour, mostly multiple choice tests in specific subjects. These tests measure knowledge of particular subject sand the ability to apply that knowledge. Students take the subject Tests to demonstrate to colleges their mastery of specific subjects like English, history, mathematics, science, and language .Many colleges use the subject Tests for admission, for course placement, and to advice students about course selection. This is used in combination with other background information (student’s high school record, scores from other tests like the SAT Reasoning Test, teacher recommendations, etc), they provide a dependable measure of the students academic achievement and are a good predictor of future performance

SAT Test Format & Duration

Total Test Duration: 2 hours 45 minutes

The SAT exam consists of three main sections: Reading, Writing & Language, and Math, all of which are completed in one sitting with short breaks in between.

Unlike IELTS, the SAT does not have a separate Speaking module. Instead, it evaluates critical thinking, comprehension, grammar, and mathematical reasoning skills in a single test session.

SAT Score Breakdown

The SAT is scored on a total scale of 400 to 1600, based on performance in two main sections:
