What is PTE?

PTE stands for "Pearson Test of English." It is a globally recognized English proficiency test designed for study, work, and migration purposes. Accepted by thousands of universities, employers, and immigration authorities worldwide, PTE is known for its fast results and computer-based assessment, making it a convenient choice for test-takers.

Types of PTE Exam

  • PTE Academic

    This is for students who want to study in English-speaking countries. It assesses reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in an academic setting and is widely accepted by universities and colleges worldwide.

  • PTE General

    This test evaluates general English language proficiency and is used for career growth and personal development rather than university admissions. It consists of a written paper and a spoken test.

  • PTE Core (Previously PTE Essential)

    This version is designed for immigration and work purposes, primarily accepted by governments for visa applications. It assesses everyday English skills needed for life and work in an English-speaking country.

PTE Test Format & Duration

Total Test Duration: 2 hours

The first three modules – Listening, Reading, and Writing (always in that order) – are completed in one day with no break in between. The Speaking module may be taken at the discretion of the test center, usually on the same day or the following day.

An PTE result or Test Report Form (TRF) is valid for two years.

PTE Band Scale

The PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic is scored on a 10 to 90 scale, with each score corresponding to a specific level of English proficiency. PTE scores are more granular than IELTS, but they can be compared to IELTS bands.

An IELTS result or Test Report Form (TRF) is valid for two years.
